The Park Plaque: Leaving Here to Enter There
“Here you leave today and enter the world of yesterday, tomorrow, and fantasy.”
So reads the plaque over the tunnels that take you beneath the railroad tracks and enter Main Street U.S.A. Before passing under that sign you’re technically “in Disneyland”, but there’s little to see, do, and discover. In order to really experience Disneyland, you must pass through this portal, leave today, and enter this place that is wholly “other”.
The same is true in your life as you come to faith in Christ. It’s possible to know about Him, go to church, and generally “dip your toe in”. But it takes a conscious, deliberate step of choosing to follow Jesus. When you do, you become new. You are different. You have left one life and entered a life that is wholly “other”.
“Therefore, if anyone is in Christ, he is a new creation; the old has gone, the new has come!…God made Him who had no sin to be sin for us, so that in Him we might become the righteousness of God.” (2 Corinthians 5:17 & 21)
“We know that we have passed from death to life, because we love our brothers. Anyone who does not love remains in death.” (1 John 3:14)
“Do you not know that the wicked will not inherit the kingdom of God?Do not be deceived:Neither the sexually immoral nor idolaters nor adulterers nor male prostitutes nor homosexual offenders nor thieves nor the greedy nor drunkards nor slanderers nor swindlers will inherit the kingdom of God. And that is what some of you were. But you were washed, you were sanctified, you were justified in the name of the Lord Jesus Christ and by the Spirit of our God.” (1 Corinthians 6:9-11)
Question: What was your moment of “passing through the portal”? It doesn’t have to be a dramatic story, but I’d love to hear it. Please share it in the comments below, or on our Facebook page.
